In general, Christmas is not celebrated as a religious event in Japan. Here in Okinawa, central areas (Chatan, Okinawa city, Kadena, Yomitan) host many non-Japanese families in each community. During this season, many people enjoy driving around Okinawa to see the beautiful decorated houses. But it is not only them who decorate homes with beautiful lights - many Okinawans also become Christmas Christians. They put out Christmas trees, get together on Christmas Eve and parents put gifts at their children's bedsides.
