NAGOYA -- Two people died in a pileup involving five vehicles on the Tomei Expressway in Aichi Prefecture Saturday morning, police said.

Osamu Ichikawa, 57, the driver of a large truck who caused the accident, was arrested for negligent driving resulting in death and injury.

At about 9:25 a.m. on Saturday, the truck driven by Ichikawa hit a car on a westbound lane of the Tomei Expressway between Otowa-Gamagori and Okazaki interchanges in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, police said.

The crash developed into a pileup involving five vehicles, two of which burst into flames, killing two people. Three other men suffered minor injuries.

Police are trying to identify the two victims, while investigating the exact cause of the accident. (Mainichi)
