Astronaut Chiaki Mukai, who has assumed the post of head of the space agency's biomedical laboratory, said an age when human beings will be able to live and work in space is getting closer. "It will be not long before we usher in an age when human beings can live and work in space. I'd like to dedicate myself to medical research that can contribute to the world, eyeing future manned expeditions to the moon and Mars," said Mukai at a press conference in Tokyo. Mukai became head of the Space Biomedical Research Office at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on Oct. 1.
