KAMAGAYA, Chiba -- Mysterious envelopes containing 10,000-yen bills have been dropped in mailboxes here since last month, with the total amount of bills found topping 800,000 yen, police said. A blank envelope containing 10,000 yen bills was found among postal matters that were collected from mailboxes in Kamagaya, at around 1 p.m. on Jan. 10, local police said. By Jan. 16, four such envelopes had been found, with the total amount of bills contained reaching 100,000 yen -- prompting postal officials to report the incident to police. As of Tuesday this week, the number of such envelopes reached 29 in total, with the sum of the banknotes found inside running up to 820,000 yen. There are five variations of envelopes, including brown and white ones, with one to six 10,000-yen bills glued to the inside of each envelope, police said.
