OSAKA -- A 12-year-old boy died shortly after he was found buried in a riverbed here Thursday by police searching for him, law enforcers said. Police found Seiju Ogawa buried in the bed of a river in Osaka's Higashisumiyoshi-ku at about 11:10 p.m. on Thursday. He was taken to hospital but died soon afterwards. Investigators said Seiju had been playing with his 10-year-old brother in the area Thursday morning, digging holes in the ground. The younger boy returned home, but Seiju failed to turn up, prompting his grandmother to make an emergency call. Police launched a search for the boy using a police dog, and eventually found him in a hole about 1.8 meters deep. They are investigating the possibilities of both a crime and an accident.
