SAGAMIHARA, Kanagawa -- A car carrying eight youths crashed into a utility pole here after one of them was driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Police are poised to arrest the 19-year-old driver, whose name is being withheld under the Juvenile Law, for violating the Road Traffic Law. At around 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, the car driven by the 19-year-old crashed into a utility pole along a municipal road in Sagamihara, local police said. Three of them, all aged 18, were seriously injured while the five others aged between 17 and 19, including the driver, suffered minor injuries. A breath test found that the 19-year-old youth was driving under the influence of alcohol. They were on their way to a karaoke establishment after drinking at a pub near JR Hashimoto Station. The seating capacity of the vehicle was five, according to investigators. Copyright 2005-2006 THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS. All rights reserved.
