OSAKA -- A couple who stuffed the woman's baby into a motorcycle seat's helmet holder and went off to play pachinko while he suffocated have been slapped with prison terms by the Osaka District Court. Mika Tamiya, 22, and her husband, Motoki, 22, were both found guilty of confinement resulting in the death of her 1-year-old son Yu Minematsu and the illegal disposal of his body. Ignoring Mika Tamiya's pleas for leniency in the form of a suspended sentence she requested while blaming the death on her husband, Presiding Judge Masao Namiki sentenced the 22-year-old woman to 4 1/2 years in prison, while her husband was given eight years behind bars. "You treated the child like nothing more than a mere object, stuffed him in the helmet holder and invited an irreversible result," Namiki said as he ordered the couple be jailed. In January this year, the Tamiyas stuffed Yu, the wife's son with an early spouse, into the helmet holder on a motorbike while the husband went off to play pachinko, leaving the infant to suffocate. When they found that Yu had died, the Tamiyas stuffed his body into a garbage bag and dumped it in a forest.
