Convenience store chain FamilyMart Co. and Calbee Foods Co. will offer rice balls filled with snacks like consomme and pizza-potato flavored potato chips, the companies said. The snack-flavored rice balls will be available at Family Mart convenience stores until June 9 and sell for 128 yen apiece. Rice balls using the slightly modified snack flavors will be packed in a way that resembles the traditional product. FamilyMart and Calbee are hoping the collaboration will spark increased sales for their traditional products. Among the snack-flavored rice balls on sale is the Kappa Ebisen shrimp flavor potato chips and the South Korea-style seaweed rice ball. The shrimp-flavored chips are ground down and slightly modified before being encompassed in rice and wrapped in seaweed with a slightly salty flavor as preferred in South Korea.
