Filipino under arrest for theft hit with fresh rape and robbery charges PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 12 May 2008

NAGOYA -- A Filipino man accused of theft has been slapped with a fresh arrest warrant on suspicion of attempted rape and robbery, law enforcers said.

Under arrest is 29-year-old Enriquez Romel Eustaquio, a resident of Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations against him, and has confessed to further crimes.

Investigators said that Eustaquio broke into the apartment of a 42-year-old woman in Kitanagoya through a veranda on the first floor at about 6 a.m. on Feb. 17, while she was sleeping. He allegedly thrust a knife at her and said, "Don't say anything. I'll stab you," and tried to rape her, but she resisted him, so he stole a bag from her containing 20,000 yen in cash.

Eustaquio admitted having broken into unlocked apartments from about the summer of 2006, and attacking sleeping women in similar crimes, police said. He has reportedly provided confessions for about 100 other trespassing and theft incidents, and about 20 rape and indecent assault crimes.
