SANMU, Chiba -- Police arrested a 71-year-old man late on Tuesday after finding him in a car with the body of a woman he said he had killed, law enforcers said. Police said an officer on patrol in Sanmu noticed a foul smell coming from a car in an empty lot at about 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday. When he approached the vehicle, he found the body of a woman in the front passenger seat, and a 71-year-old man sleeping in the driver's seat. When the officer questioned the man, identified as Yoshiki Emoto, an unemployed resident of Otaki, Chiba Prefecture, the 71-year-old reportedly admitted having killed the woman. "I decided to die with her and I strangled her with a belt on Sept. 1," he was quoted as saying. Police immediately arrested Emoto on suspicion of abandoning a body. They are continuing to question him over the woman's death. Investigators identified the woman as Teruko Miyazaki, 58, a resident of Otaki.
