Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda held his first telephone conversation with South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun on Friday, in which he asked Seoul for cooperation in improving Japan's ties with North Korea, government officials said. "I'd like you to continue cooperating with us (in improving our relations with Pyongyang)," Fukuda was quoted as telling Roh. The South Korean president appreciated Fukuda's policy of attaching particular importance to Japan's relations with Asian neighbors. Fukuda and Roh also agreed to hold Japan-South Korea summit talks when they attend the East Asia summit conference to be held in Singapore this November.
