FUJINOMIYA, Shizuoka -- A gas station manager has been arrested along with two accomplices for robbing his own gas station of about 4 million yen last year, police said. Yasuaki Suzuki, 29, who still serves as the manager of the gas station in Fujinomiya, and two 18-year-old construction workers were arrested after turning themselves in to police on Tuesday. The names of the accomplices are being withheld under the Juvenile Law. Suzuki asked an 18-year-old high school boy who worked part-time at the gas station to take the gas station's takings to an after-hour depository at a local bank on April 23, 2006. He intended to rob the boy of the money, investigators said. The part-timer appeared at the bank at about 9:50 p.m. on that day when Suzuki and his two accomplices threatened him with a kitchen knife. They then stole a bag containing about 4 million yen from the part-timer before fleeing. The part-timer was not involved in the crime. Suzuki told investigators that he asked the part-timer to place the money into the after-hour depository and robbed him to prevent himself or employees from being suspected of involvement in the case. "I thought I or the employees would be suspected if I stole money directly from my gas station," he was quoted as saying during questioning.
