The work log of an Imperial Guard police officer and other internal police records have been leaked on 2channel, Japan's biggest Internet bulletin board, it has been learned. The records are believed to have come from the computer of an officer in his 20s who was using the file-sharing software Winny. Police are questioning the officer to determine how the information was leaked. The leaked information reportedly includes a four-day work log from 2005, along with police car operation data and other records. The leak was discovered by National Police Agency on Friday morning. Imperial Guard officials say that officers are banned from bringing their own computers to work. However, while copying data onto portable storage devices is now prohibited, there were no such restrictions in place three years ago. "We are investigating the facts of the case, but this is extremely regrettable, and we want to prevent a recurrence," an Imperial Guard representative said. In March 2006, police headquarters across the nation banned the use of Winny, even on officers' home computers. However, in June last year, personal information relating to about 10,000 people, including testimonies in indecent assault cases, was leaked from the Metropolitan Police Department.
