A growing number of L&G group investors have complained to governmental consumer consultation centers across the country about its failure to pay interest or refund their invested funds, officials said.

The National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan, which is affiliated with the central government and local government consumer consultation centers across the country, received 174 complaints from consumers regarding the L&G group in the first half of this fiscal year alone. The pace is faster than last fiscal year when they received 244 complaints against the group in a 12-month period.

Most of the complaints said that the bedding goods sales company based in Tokyo failed to pay interest on the money that was invested while others said the firm has refused to refund invested funds.

The company had solicited consumers to invest in its bedding goods sales business project by promising to pay them dividends.

The company had initially explained to investors that it could not refund the money they invested until after September this year.

However, L&G Chairman Kazutsugi Nami told some investors in September that the company could not refund the invested money for the immediate future because it did not have enough money, prompting some of them to sue the firm.

About 60 investors living in the Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu and Kyushu districts have filed lawsuits demanding that the money they invested be returned to them. Some investigators are considering filing criminal complaints with law enforcers against L&G.
