SYDNEY -- Julius Maritim won the Sydney Marathon for the third year in a row to lead a Kenyan sweep in the men's division Sunday, while Japan's Naoko Tsuchiya took the women's title. Maritim led from 12 kilometers into the 42-kilometer (26.2-mile) race and finished more than six minutes ahead of the field in an event-record time of 2 hours, 14 minutes, 38 seconds. "The first five kilometers were fairly cold, but it warmed up towards the end and I'm really glad to beat my previous time," Maritim said. Philip Muia was second in a time of 2:21:54 and Nicholas Merica third in 2:24:22. Tsuchiya had a three-minute win in the women's event, finishing in 2:43:10.
