BEIJING -- Ryoko Tani and other Japanese judoka took part in a practice session at a venue here on Thursday ahead of the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games. "Her condition is far better than before the World Judo Championships last year," said Kazuo Yoshimura of the All Japan Judo Federation. Tani is seeking to win her third Olympic gold medal and first since becoming a mother, following her success at the Athens and Sydney Olympic games. After a careful warm-up at JOC Japan House in the Hotel New Otani, Tani practiced throws and groundwork against a practice partner for about 45 minutes. Noriyuki Ichihara, deputy head of the Japanese Olympic delegation, and Haruki Uemura, general manager of the delegation, observed the practice session. Copyright 2005-2006 THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS.
