HAGA, Tochigi -- A man who set fire to his home to kill his wife has been arrested, police said.

Hideyuki Watanabe, 53, a first classarchitect, was arrested for murder and arson over the weekend following the Friday night blaze.

He basically admits to the allegation that he set the fire to kill his 53-year-old wife, Setsuko.

"I lit the fire near the first-floor stairs," he told the police.

Police said the fire burned down Watanabe's home-cum-office, with his wife's body discovered in the charred remains of the gutted building.
