An unemployed man has been arrested for raping a woman in a parking lot in western Tokyo in early April, police said. Ryoichi Kazama, 25, a resident of Hachioji, Tokyo, stands accused of rape. He admitted to the allegations during questioning. He also suggested that he was involved in an attempted rape that occurred in mid-May in Tachikawa. Kazama approached a 21-year-old part-time worker from behind on a street in Tachikawa at around 2 a.m. on April 4, and suddenly covered her mouth, local police said. He then threatened to stab her if she screamed, and forced her into a nearby parking lot where he sexually assaulted her, according to investigators. He had spotted her at a nearby convenience store and tailed her. Kazama underwent a DNA test when he was questioned on May 2 over a car theft case and was linked to the rape through his DNA.
