Man arrested for stabbing uncle to death PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 19 October 2007

FUJISAWA, Kanagawa -- A man has been arrested for fatally stabbing his 63-year-old uncle here late Thursday night, police said.

Masahiro Hirai, 40, a company employee, was initially arrested for attempted murder because his uncle, Goro Hirai, was still alive. Police subsequently upgraded the charges to murder after the victim died.

Masahiro was quoted as telling police that he had trouble with his uncle for more than a decade and that he had a grudge against him. "My uncle threw dog poop at my car," he told police.

At around 11 p.m. on Thursday, a 22-year-old neighbor found the senior Hirai lying on a road in front of his home in Fujisawa, bleeding from his stomach and back, and reported it to police. Officers rushed to the scene and arrested Masahiro. Goro died about an hour later.

Investigators suspect that Masahiro chased his uncle and stabbed him in the stomach and back with a knife several times. Police have confiscated the knife that was left near the crime scene.

Masahiro is the eldest son of his uncle's elder brother and lives in a solitary house about 50 meters away from his uncle's home.
