A man under arrest for mutilating the body of a Filipino woman he lived with had been in a dispute with her over their share of rent for their Tokyo apartment, sources at her workplace said.

Investigators suspect that the dispute may have triggered the incident, and are grilling the suspect, 48-year-old Hiroshi Nozaki, over allegations that he murdered the 22-year-old victim, Honiefith Ratilla Kamiosawa.

Ratilla got acquainted with Nozaki sometime last year when he visited her at a nightclub in Tokyo's Taito-ku where she worked at the time, according to the sources.

When she moved to another nightclub in the Roppongi district of Minato-ku last December, she began to live with Nozaki and two of her cousins at the apartment where a part of her body was discovered late last week.

Ratilla, her two cousins and Nozaki agreed to equally share more than 200,000 yen in monthly rent. However, Nozaki recently began to refuse to bear his share, triggering a dispute between him and Ratilla, according to the sources.
