TOKAI, Aichi -- A man accused of theft has been slapped with new charges for possessing explosives at his home, police said.

Local police served a fresh arrest warrant accusing Yukio Toho, 37, an unemployed man from Nagoya, of violating the Explosives Control Law. Police also found a note at his home saying he would assault a policeman and steal a gun.

Toho had earlier been indicted on charges of theft for stealing a police ID card from a police box in Tokai, Aichi Prefecture.

Toho possessed 11 metallic pipes filled with explosive powder and two warheads at his home on Jan. 7, according to prefectural police. He has admitted to the allegations.
