A young man died after walking onto a closed railway crossing in Tokyo and was hit by an oncoming train, in what appears to be suicide, police said. The man has been identified as a 23-year-old vocational school student who lived nearby. At around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the man walked into the crossing on the Seibu Railway Shinjuku Line between Tanashi and Hanakoganei stations in western Tokyo after the gate had closed. He was hit by a 10-carriage express train bound for Seibu-Shinjuku from Hon-Kawagoe. Services on the line were suspended for about 45 minutes following the accident, Seibu Railway officials said.
