HIGASHITOKOROZAWA, Saitama -- A sewing needle was found in a boxed lunch sold at a convenience store here, sparking a police investigation on suspicion of obstruction of business. According to police, the Higashitokorozawa 1-chome outlet of convenience store chain Lawson contacted police at around 3:10 p.m. on Thursday to report the find. The lunch box was purchased at around 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, but returned after the customer realized the needle had been stuck into it, police said. The needle, measuring about 4.5 centimeters long, was found inside a sausage, and had apparently been stuck in through the box's lid, police said. Similar cases have recently occurred in the Saitama prefectural city of Iruma, in which two 5-centimeter sewing needles were found in packages of chicken on Feb. 28 and March 13.
