NAHA -- A passenger was found missing after a ferry he had boarded arrived at a port here from Nagoya on Monday, local coast guard officials said. At around 8:45 a.m. on Monday, a crewmember of the 16,000-ton Hiryu made an emergency call to the headquarters of the local coast guard, reporting that one of its 28 passengers was missing. The 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters dispatched 18 patrol boats and five aircraft to search for the man, suspecting that he had plunged into the sea. The missing passenger was identified on the ferry's passengers list as Goro Ishii, 70, from Otowa, Aichi Prefecture. Crewmembers noticed that he was missing when they collected ticket stubs from disembarking passengers at the Port of Naha. The missing passenger's stub was subsequently found in the cabin of the vessel. Copyright 2005-2006 THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS. All rights reserved.
