Traces of herbicide have been found in a bottle of green tea after a Tokyo man drank it late last month and developed diarrhea, its manufacturer and police said. Noting that the man says the cap of the bottle was loose, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) suspects that someone may have deliberately laced the tea with the chemical, and is treating the case as forcible obstruction of business. The wife of the 43-year-old company executive living in Nerima-ku, Tokyo, bought the bottle of "Healthya" green tea, produced by Kao Corp., at a supermarket in Nerima-ku on March 26, local police said. The man started drinking the tea last Monday, but after tasting the chemical he immediately stuck a finger down his throat to make himself vomit. He later developed symptoms of minor diarrhea. Kao examined the tea and alerted the MPD after detecting traces of herbicide from it. Copyright 2005-2006 THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS. All rights reserved.
