KAKOGAWA, Hyogo -- The killer of an elementary school girl here is likely to be familiar with the area around the murder scene, investigators said. Family members of the victim, 7-year-old second grader Yuzuki Unose, did not see the killer or a car that the killer may have used to escape, even though they rushed out of their home immediately after she cried for help in front of their home. Investigators said they suspect that the culprit took advantage of his familiarity with the neighborhood in the Befu district of Kakogawa to escape from the scene, noting that the neighborhood is like a maze with numerous narrow alleys. A suspicious man dressed in work clothes was spotted near Kakogawa Municipal Befu Elementary School that Yuzuki attended as well as her home before she was stabbed to death in front of her house. He appeared to be in his mid-20s, eyewitnesses have told local police.
