KITAKATA, Fukushima -- A police sergeant who paid a 14-year-old junior high school girl for sex has been arrested, police said. Yoji Nozaki, 34, the Fukushima Prefectural Police sergeant stationed at Kitakata Police Station, was arrested for breaking the Law for Punishing Acts Related to Child Prostitution and Child Pornography. Nozaki denies the allegations. "I can't remember a thing," he told investigators. Police said that Nozaki came in contact with the 14-year-old through a mobile phone matchmaking site and they met at a hotel in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, in March, where he promised to pay her cash so he could perform sex acts on her. Police said they found a post from Nozaki on the matchmaking site in April. Nozaki was in charge of overseeing police detention cells. Police promised to get to the bottom of the case. "It's regrettable someone has behaved in a manner unfit for a police officer," prefectural police spokesman Koji Kurotsu said. "We will investigate the facts behind the case and deal with it severely." Copyright 2005-2006 THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS. All rights reserved.
