The Southern All Stars, arguably Japan's most loved band, will take an indefinite break at the end of this year, their record company announced over the weekend. "We hope to get together as Southern All Stars again at some point in the future," the band said in a comment released through its record company on Sunday, while ruling out the possibility of dissolving the band. Headed by 52-year-old vocalist Keisuke Kuwata, the band debuted in June 1978 with the smash hit song, "Katte ni Sindbad." Their songs were so popular that some of them were even covered by foreign artists, including "Ellie My Love" by Ray Charles. In August this year, the band will give a special concert at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, commemorating the 30th anniversary of their debut. Copyright 2005-2006 THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS.
