TOKUSHIMA -- Prisoners making paper bags at Tokushima Prison rioted, attacking guards and causing injuries to several people before being quelled in a few minutes, prison officials said.

The riot broke out on Friday morning when more than 10 of the 60 prisoners making the bags suddenly unleashed an attack on their guards.

An emergency bell alerted dozens more prison officials, who rushed to the scene and overpowered the revolting prisoners.

Offending prisoners were slapped in handcuffs and led away to solitary confinement cells.

Prison officials said the scuffle was over within a few minutes.
