Support for the Cabinet of Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda plummeted to its lowest level since kicking off in September last year, with less than a quarter of those surveyed by the Mainichi over the weekend backing it. Support dropped 6 percentage points from a March survey to fall to just 24 percent. Disapproval of the Cabinet, which topped a majority of voters surveyed in the previous poll for the first time, also grew by six percentage points to reach 57 percent. Polled about whether they want to see the prime minister carry out his threat to restore what was supposed to be a provisional tax on gasoline after it's effect expired at the end of March, 64 percent said they were opposed, while 32 percent agreed.
