A man who has admitted killing a neighbor and flushing her remains down the toilet said he lay in wait for her because he wanted to rape her, police said. Police continue to investigate the claim by 33-year-old Takanori Hoshijima that he killed and mutilated the body of his neighbor, 23-year-old Rurika Tojo. Hoshijima has been arrested for trespassing in Tojo's apartment, but has allegedly told police that he killed the young woman. "I waited around near Ms. Tojo's apartment because when she got home I was going to sneak up on her and rape her," police quoted Hoshijima as saying. Police said Hoshijima told them he raced into Tojo's apartment as she opened the door upon returning home on the night of April 18. Police said Hoshijima returned to his apartment at about 6 p.m. that night and lay in wait until Tojo came to her room nearby some 90 minutes later. Hoshijima lived in an apartment two doors from Tojo's apartment, with the room between them unoccupied. Police said that Hoshijima and Tojo had not been on speaking terms. Several bloodstains have been found in Hoshijima's apartment. "I cut up Ms. Tojo's body into little pieces and flushed them down the toilet," police quoted him as saying. Not long after Tojo was declared missing police investigators examined Hoshijima's apartment, including the toilet and bath, but found nothing suspicious at that time, police said.
