A former supervisor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Transportation who used forged Pasmo train passes to get refunds, saying he needed money to buy a model railroad, was arrested Wednesday, police said. Arrested on suspicion of fraud and forging securities was Go Matayoshi, 28, a resident of Yoshikawa, Saitama Prefecture. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations against him. "I needed money to buy a model railroad and repay loans to consumer finance groups," he was quoted as telling police. Investigators said that while Matayoshi was working at Bakuro-Yokoyama Station on the Toei Shinjuku subway line in September last year, he used a machine to illicitly obtain data from train passes bought under false names, and transferred the information to three Pasmo cards. He then obtained refunds from the three cards at nearby stations for a total of about 230,000 yen, police said. Police suspect Matayoshi illicitly obtained refunds on about 100 occasions over an eight-month period starting from May last year, raking in a total of about 6 million yen. Matayoshi's actions were uncovered when officials noticed that several train passes in his name had been traded for refunds. He was sacked in December last year.
