SHIMONOSEKI, Yamaguchi -- Cherry blossoms appeared on a tree along a prefectural road here in late September, leaving local residents dumbfounded. Botanists say cherry trees occasionally mistakenly sense that spring has come when the temperature rises after their leaves get blown off by autumnal typhoons. It is the first time that the tree, a 10-year-old someiyoshino planted along a prefectural road in the Toyouracho-Kuroi district, has produced flower in autumn.
