Young stork thrown out of nest by parent bird in Hyogo PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 06 April 2008

TOYOOKA, Hyogo -- A stork at an artificial nesting spot here was spotted discarding a young bird that recently hatched from its nest, apparently after the young bird died.

Three of the birds, which are designated as "special natural monuments," were confirmed to have hatched on March 22. However, the parent stork threw one of them out of the nest on Thursday, apparently after it died for some unknown reason. The carcass of the young bird has not been found.

Officials at the Hyogo Prefectural Homeland for the Oriental White Stork made the announcement on the young bird on Thursday. A park worker confirmed that there were only two chicks remaining in the nest after receiving information from a bird watcher.
