The pachinko industry association has decided to try to reduce member parlors' greenhouse gas emissions by about 9 percent by 2010, officials said.
Zennichiyuren, comprising about 13,000 pachinko parlors across the country, set the target in an action plan it has worked out recently.
This is the first time the pachinko industry, which consumes a huge amount of electricity through its pachinko machines and elaborate light displays, has made any contribution to help prevent global warming.
